Walking into work on a Friday morning is already a lovely experience due to the countdown towards the weekend that has already started in my head when I drive into the parking garage. Upon entering the lobby, I see a poster advertising "Fresh Air Friday" which includes FREE food and beverages. My day has just reached another level of greatness. I can't think of many things better than not having to pay for lunch in downtown Houston.
Today, as part of its Clean Air Initiatives, the Houston-Galveston Area Council hosted "2011 Fresh Air Friday", a free event where you can learn about ways to keep the city beautiful and about clean air programs that promote the use of alternative fuels, clean-engine technology and commute alternatives.
It is the eighth annual event that aims to bring Houstonians out of their offices and onto Jones Plaza for fresh air, delicious food and beverages, a free health screening, live entertainment and great prizes.
At this point, I am so hyped to go and begin emailing friends to see if they would like to get out of their offices and attend with me. Of course, they chose to go.
Upon arrival, we immediately collected our bags from the greeters in set off to fill them with free goodies and we were not disappointed. While standing in lines, we couldn't help but begin moving, swaying and bouncing our heads to the sound of great music coming from The Stephen Richard Band on stage.
The event brought out many well know vendors: H-E-B, Smoothie King, Sweet Leaf Iced Teas, Kolache Factory, Frenchy's Chicken, My Fit Foods, Birraporretti's, Houston Dynamo, Tasti D-Lite, General Mills, Metro, Drive Clean Across Texas, Knapp Chevy, Kelsey Seybold Clinics, Centerpoint Energy, Java Pura and more.
It was a great event and accomplished exactly what it set out to do: Bringing Houstonians outside to enjoy the fresh air and enjoying free food, beverages and entertainment while learning about ways to keep the air clean.
